WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA sophomore second baseman Matt Abram has been named Pac-10 Baseball Player of the Week and STANFORD junior right-hander Jeff Bruksch has been named Pac-10 Baseball Pitcher of the Week for April 2-8, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Abram, from Scottsdale, Ariz., batted .533 against Washington State, going 8-for-15 with six RBI and six runs scored. The sophomore became just the 10th Wildcat and 21st Pac-10 player to hit for the cycle. In the final game of the series, Abram tripled in the first inning, doubled in the third, homered in the fifth and singled in the seventh to finish the game 5-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored.
Bruksch, from Los Angeles, won for the seventh time in his last eight starts. Against UCLA, he held the Bruins scoreless in eight innings pitched. He struck out a career-high 12 batters, while giving up six hits. Bruksch now stands at 7-0 on the season with a 2.40 ERA.
The Player of the Week honor is the first for Abram in his career, and the 35th selection all-time for Arizona. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the third for Bruksch in his career, and the 58th selection all-time for Stanford.
