Softball Takes No. 4 Ranking To Fresno State For Tuesday Doubleheader

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 4 Stanford softball team is headed to No. 13 Fresno State for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 10. The first pitch of Game 1 from Buoldog Diamond is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on the internet.
The Cardinal brings a 35-3-1 overall record into tonight's games and a 5-1 Pacific-10 Conference mark. Last weekend, Stanford went 3-0 against the Oregon schools, with two wins over No. 16 Oregon State. Junior first baseman Sarah Beeson hit .556 (5-for-9) on the weekend, including a home run and two doubles. She had six RBI and scored five runs. Sophomore pitcher Dana Sorensen went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two outings. She had 12 strikeouts in 11 innings of work and walked just two batters.
The Bulldogs are 28-12 on the season and are 4-1 in Western Athletic Conference play. They are also 15-3 on their home field. The Bulldogs split games with San Jose State on Saturday and picked up a road win at Portland State last Thursday. Fresno State is led by Becky Witt, who is hitting .380 (49 hits, 7 RBI) and Tiffany Whipple (.361, 15 RBI). In the circle, sophomore Leslie Poole leads the staff with a record of 14-5 and a 1.02 ERA. She is also this week's WAC Pitcher of the Week.
Stanford returns to its home Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium for Pac-10 play on Friday when it takes on No. 5 Cal at 3:00 p.m. The Cardinal and Bears meet again on Saturday in Berkeley.
