Huskies Monopolize No. 13 Spots in NCAA Tennis Rankings

April 11, 2001

PRINCETON, N.J. - The University of Washington held down the No. 13 position in both men's and women's polls in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings released on Wednesday.

The Huskies vaulted from No. 22 to 13th in the women's rankings after winning their last four matches. They have a 16-6 overall record and are second in the Pacific-10 Conference standings with a 6-1 mark. Pac-10 leader Stanford, which dealt UW its only conference setback, is atop the women's poll for the 11th consecutive week.

The Washington women host their final two home matches this weekend, entertaining 38th-ranked UCLA on Friday and No. 19 USC on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at noon at the Quillian Stadium outdoor courts in the UW athletic complex. In the event of inclement weather, matches will be moved inside the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

The Husky men slipped one place from 12th to No. 13 after having their 10-match winning streak halted last week at Arizona. The UW men's squad has a 17-5 record, including a 2-2 Pac-10 ledger.

Washington embarks on a treacherous road trip to Los Angeles this weekend, beginning Friday against top-ranked UCLA. The Bruin men boast a 17-1 record and have been ranked No. 1 for eight straight weeks. On Saturday the Huskies visit No. 21 USC.
