UW Softball Coach Teresa Wilson Named To USA Softball Women's National Team Coaching Pool

SEATTLE - University of Washington head softball coach Teresa Wilson is one of 12 coaches to be named to the USA Softball Women's National Team Coaches Pool, the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) announced today.

Wilson, who has directed the Huskies to five straight College World Series appearances, will travel to the USA Softball Women's National Team Camp, May 30-June 3 in Chula Vista, Calif. As a member of the coaches pool, she will be eligible for selection to such important coaching assignments as the 2001 U.S. Cup in Hawaii, 2001 Canada Cup in Vancouver, the 2002 ISF Women's World Championship in Canada, the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

Wilson, now in her ninth-year at the UW and 15th season overall, has had previous coaching experience at both the national and international levels. In 1998, Wilson was an assistant coach for Team USA at the ISF Women's World Championships, where the USA captured its fourth consecutive gold medal and qualified as the top seed at the 2000 Olympics. The Pickering, Mo., native also helped coach the national team to a silver medal at Superball '97 in Columbus, Ga., and was an assistant coach at the 1999 junior world championships in Taipei, Taiwan.

Wilson is joined in the coaches pool by Mike Candrea (Arizona), Ken Eriksen (South Florida), Patti Gasso (Oklahoma), Michele Gromacki (CSU Fullerton), Karen Johns (Florida), Eugene Lenti (DePaul), Jay Miller (Missouri), Pat Murphy (Alabama), John Rittman (Stanford),Kirk Walker (Oregon State) and Linda Wells (Arizona State).
