The No. 13 Washington Women's Tennis Team Picks Up First-Ever Win over No. 38 UCLA

SEATTLE - Senior Kristina Kraszewski collected two crucial victories to help the 13th-ranked Washington women's tennis team post its first ever victory over No. 38 UCLA with a close 4-3 decision inside Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
Washington defeated the Bruins for the first time in nine all-time meetings, improving their season record to 17-6. With the win the Huskies also improved to 7-1 in Pac-10 action for second place, whileUCLA fell to 5-15 overall, and 2-4 in Pac-10 conference action.
In doubles action, Washington grabbed the 1-0 lead as junior Erin Boisclair teamed up with freshman Erin Hoe to quickly dispose of Jennifer Donahue and Catherine Hawley, 8-4 to take the No. 3 position. The duo of Kraszewski and sophomore Darija Klaic then went on to battle back to defeat 18th-ranked tandem Lauren Fisher and Petya Marinova, 8-6 at the No. 1 slot. UCLA's duo of Sara Walker and Mariko Fritz-Krockow took the number two position 8-4 over freshman Claire Carter and junior Ilona Kordonskaya.
The highly anticipated match of the afternoon was at the number one position with 8th-ranked Kraszewski against 17th-ranked Walker. Kraszewski won the first set 6-4 and then nuzzled past Walker 7-6(2) to win the second set.
At the second and sixth positions, Carter and sophomore Colleen Gray each picked up their fifth consecutive singles victory. Carter knocked off Hawley in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, while Gray cruised to a straight set victory herself over Donahue, 6-1, 6-1.
Washington will host its final regular season home match against No. 19 Southern California (15-6, 3-2 in Pac-10) Saturday, Apr. 13. The match is scheduled to begin at noon at the Quillian Stadium outdoor courts in the UW athletic complex. In the event of inclement weather, matches will be moved inside to the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center.
