Stanford Track & Field Team Competes At Hamilton Relays

Stanford, Ca - Seventy-six members of the Stanford track & field team will travel to Berkeley on Saturday, April 14, 2001, to compete in the fourth annual Brutus Hamilton Relays at Edwards Stadium/Goldman Field at the University of California ... This will be a scoring meet with eight teams (Stanford, California, Arizona, USC, Ohio State, UC Davis, Nevada, Sacramento State) competing ... The field events will begin at 8:30 a.m. while the running events are slated to start at 11:00 a.m. ... Scoring for the individual and relays will be 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

Forty-seven athletes (28 women, 19 men) have qualified for the Pac-10 Championships on May 19-20 at California ... Eight Stanford athletes (5 men, 3 women) have qualified provisionally for the NCAA's, and one athlete, Jonathon Riley, has met the NCAA automatic standard in the 10,000 meters.

National NotesJonathon Riley is Stanford's first NCAA outdoor qualifier ... Competing in his first collegiate 10,000 meters, Riley ran a 28:31.71 at the Stanford Invitational (3/31) ... Riley's time is third-best all-time at Stanford, and tops in the Pac-10 this year ... Eight Cardinal athletes have qualified provisionally for the NCAA's which will be held May 30-June 2 at the University of Oregon in Eugene.
Record ReviewTwo school records have already been broken this year ... Jessica Pluth broke the freshman record in the hammer with a toss of 187-0 at the Stanford Invitational (4-1) ... Pluth easily broke the previous record of 163-10 by Maggie Isaac in 1997 ... Pluths' effort is also third-best overall all-time at Stanford, and only three feet short of the school record of 190-0 by Maureen Onyeagbako in 1999 ... Jillian Camarena broke the freshman school record in the shot put with a throw of 51-0 3/4 at the Stanford Opener (3/24) ...
