Women's Gymnastics Earns Multiple Honors

Stanford, Calif. - Katy Herbert and Alissa Cooper were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic team, while teammates Lindsay Wing, Caroline Fluhrer, Jen Exaltacion and Lise Lï¿½veillï¿½ were named to the Pac-10 All-Conference Team. Wing was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and head coach Mark Cook was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year and West Region Coach of the Year.
Junior Katy Herbert was named to the Pac-10 Second Team All-Academic squad. An America Studies major, Herbert competed on the beam for the Cardinal this year, with a high score of 9.900 recorded against Minnesota on Feb. 2. Sophomore Alissa Cooper was earned All-Academic Honorable Mention. Cooper saw limited action for Stanford this year, but recorded a season-high 9.600 on vault at the Super Six Challenge to open the season.
Freshman Lindsay Wing was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year as well as being named to the All-Conference Team for the All-Around and the beam. Wing is second on Stanford's all-time list for her All-Around score of 39.750, which she recorded against Brigham Young on March 3. She is tied for first for the all-time record on beam - she has tallied two 9.975's this season, her latest one on March 3 against the Cougars. Wing was also named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week after the Cardinal's impressive win over Minnesota in which the Cardinal set a new school record (which they broke at the Pac-10 Championships) for the overall team score with a 197.425.
Senior Jen Exaltacion was also named to the Pac-10 All-Conference team for the All-Around and beam. Exaltacion recorded seven All-Around scores above a 39.000. One of the nation's leaders on beam, Exaltacion set a new career-high for herself against California with a 9.950 on Feb. 18. She matched that score against BYU and tallied nine scores of 9.900 or higher. Freshman Caroline Fluhrer was named to the Pac-10 All-Conference team for the All-Around and vault. Fluhrer is tied for ninth in the Stanford record books after chalking up a 39.550 All-Around score at the Pac-10 Championships on March 24. At the conference championships, she also tied the school record on vault with a 9.975. Freshman Lise Lï¿½veillï¿½ was named to the Pac-10 All-Conference team for beam and floor. Lï¿½veillï¿½ recorded a 9.900 or better on eight of her last nine floor routines, including a 9.975 against California. She also tied the school record on beam with a 9.975 at the Pac-10 Championships.
Head coach Mark Cook was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year and West Region Coach of the Year after leading the Cardinal to an impressive win at the Pac-10 Championships - his second title in four years. The Cardinal suffered one loss during the entire season and tallied seven straight wins to close out the season and capture the conference title and a spot at the NCAA Regionals. The Cardinal finished second at the Northeast Regional to advance to Athens, Georgia where Cook seeks his first NCAA Championship.
