Tolson, Moser Double Winners

UCLA's track and field teams defeated Nebraska and CS Northridge in dualand triangular scoring on Saturday at Drake Stadium. It was the Bruins' finalhome meet of the 2001 outdoor season.
Jeanette Bolden's UCLA women's team won the tri meet with 157 points,followed by Nebraska ( 135) and CS Northridge (87). The Bruin women also beatNebraska (104-58) and CS Northridge (120-66) in the dual meets, with Nebraskadefeating CS Northridge (106-81).
Art Venegas' Bruin men's squad duplicated the UCLA women's victories, winningthe tri meet (UCLA 173 1/2, Nebraska 137 1/2, CS Northridge 84) and victoriousin both duals (UCLA 109 1/2-Nebraska 88 1/2, UCLA 135-CS Northridge 62).Nebraska beat CS Northridge in dual scoring (115-80).
The UCLA women in the field were led by senior Christina Tolson, who won boththe shot put (56-6 1/2, national collegiate leader, season-best, NCAA automaticqualifier) and hammer (202-8). UCLA's other victories in field competition were' junior Tracy O'Hara in the pole vault (13-9 1/4, season-best, NCAA automaticqualifier) and sophomore Chaniqua Ross in the discus (173-11, ties season-best,NCAA provisional qualifier).
On the track, the Bruin women were led by freshmen, Adia McKinnon and SheenaJohnson. McKinnon won the 200m (23.72, personal-best) and 400m (52.88,personal-best, NCAA provisional qualifier) and ran on both of UCLA's winningrelays (4 X 100m, third leg, 45.25, 4 X 400m relay, opening leg, 3:41.03,season-best). Johnson won the 100m hurdles (13.52, personal-best, NCAAprovisional qualifier) and ran the second leg on UCLA's winning 4 X 100m relay.Also winning for the UCLA women on the track were ' senior Shakedia Jones in the100m (11.55, outdoor season opener, NCAA provisional qualifier), junior YsanneWilliams in the 800m (2:09.27) and sophomore Elaine Canchola in the 1500m(4:32.71).
In men's field competition, UCLA junior Scott Moser won two events, the shot put(61-9 1/2) and the discus (194-6), and placed third in the hammer (186-7). OtherBruin winners in the field events included ' freshman Juaune Armon in the longjump (24-3, personal-best), sophomore Nate Marum in the javelin (228-11,personal-best, NCAA provisional qualifier) and freshman Dan Ames in the hammerthrow (192-10, personal-best).
On the track in the men's events, the Bruins were led by senior BryanHarrison, sophomore Kyle Erickson and freshman Denye Versher. Harrison won the200m (20.88, season-best), placed second in the 100m (10.49, season legal-best),and ran the anchor leg on UCLA's winning 4 X 100m relay (39.96, season-best,NCAA provisional qualifier). Erickson won the 400m hurdles (50.54,personal-best, NCAA provisional qualifier) and ran the second leg on the Bruins'victorious 4 X 400m relay (3:11.13, season-best) Versher won the 400m (47.30,personal-best) and ran the opening leg on the winning UCLA 4 X 400m relay. Alsowinning for the Bruins on the track was freshman Chuckie Ryan in the 110mhurdles (14.18, season-best).
Next week, the Bruins will send athletes to the Pomona Invitational (April20), Long Beach Invitational (April 21) and the Mt. SAC Relays (April 20-22).
