Men's Tennis Sweeps Arizona Schools

BERKELEY, CA - The No. 26-ranked Cal men's tennis team (12-7, 4-3 Pac-10) swept the Arizona schools this weekend, after shutting out Arizona on Friday, before downing the Sun Devils (9-11, 3-4 Pac-10), today at the Hellman Tennis Courts, 5-2.
Cal started off the day on a good note, sweeping the doubles competition for the first point of the day. The sweep in doubles marks the fifth time this season that the Bears took all three courts to open up the match.
The Bears would then march on to take four of the next six singles courts in straight sets. Senior Erik Dmytruk took a win at No. 6 by downing Jarrod Eckermann, while at No. 1, John Paul Fruttero easily defeated Matt Klinger, 6-2, 6-1.
Cal sealed the match when Balazs Veress knocked out Nicholas Dubey in straight sets at No. 2 (6-3, 6-1), giving the Bears the win and the sweep.
Men's tennis will continue competition Monday, April 16, when they take on Pepperdine at the Hellman Tennis Courts at 1:30 p.m.
