Baseball Gets Revenge In 14-2 Rout At UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Brian Barre and Seth Davidson recorded three-hit performances while Chad Clark threw five scoreless innings Tuesday and the No. 8 USC Trojans recorded a 14-2 non-conference victory against the UC Riverside Highlanders. The Trojans (27-13) jumped out to a 10-0 lead after three innings in front of 896 at Riverside Sports Complex.
USC scored six runs in the second, which started when Rob Garibaldi walked with the bases loaded. Barre hit a two-run single to double followed by an RBI double by Davidson to right center. Anthony Lunetta, a Riverside native, hit into a fielder's choice to plate Barre and Josh Persell's single to left scored Lunetta to cap the scoring for the Trojans.
Clark (3-2) allowed only two hits and struck out five to record the win for the Trojans. Brian Hoff (0-3) gave up six runs in one inning to pick up the loss for the Highlanders (14-24). USC avenged a 6-4 loss against UC Riverside on March 6 at Dedeaux Field.
The Trojans will begin a Pac-10 Conference series with top-ranked Stanford on Friday (April 20) at 6 p.m. with Mark Prior getting the start for USC against the Cardinal's Jeremy Guthrie. The series will continue with 1 p.m. starts on Saturday (April 21) and Sunday (April 22). All games will be broadcast live on www.usctrojans.com. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Net with Barry Tompkins and Jerry Kindall calling the action.
