Five OSU Wrestlers On All-Academic Team

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's Paul Barron and Jed Pennell were named to the Pacific-10 All-Academic wrestling team for 2000-01, it has been announced. OSU's Shane Cunanan and Isaac Weber were named to the second team and the Beavers' Casey Horn and John Winters earned honorable mention.

To be eligible for Pacific-10 all-academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be a starter or significant substitute.

Barron (Myrtle Point, Ore./Myrtle Point HS), a senior, has a 3.61 GPA and is majoring in Forest Engineering and Civil Engineering. Wrestling at 149 pounds this past season, Barron had a 6-5 record.

Pennell (Cave Junction, Ore./Illinois Valley HS), a redshirt freshman, has a 3.82 GPA and is majoring in Exercise and Sport Science. Wrestling at 165 pounds this past season, Pennell had a 17-12 record with three pins, placed fifth in the Pacific-10 and qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Cunanan (Spokane, Wash./Central Valley HS), a sophomore, has a 3.14 GPA and is majoring in Exercise and Sport Science. Wrestling at 141 pounds this past season, Cunanan had a 21-14 record with four pins, placed second in the Pacific-10 and qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Weber (Newberg, Ore./Newberg HS), a junior, has a 3.29 GPA and is majoring in Political Science. Wrestling at 184 pounds this past season, Weber had a 13-14 record and placed fifth in the Pacific-10.

Horn (Salem, Ore./North Salem HS), a sophomore, has a 3.04 GPA and is majoring in Liberal Studies. Wrestling at 141 and 149 pounds this past season, Horn had a 4-14 record with two pins.

Winters (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate HS), a redshirt freshman, has a 3.15 GPA and is majoring in Business. Wrestling at 197 pounds and heavyweight this past season, Winters had a 1-2 record.
