Sam Fuld To Chat Live Online
April 19, 2001
Stanford freshman outfielder Sam Fuld will make a special visit to the gostanford.com chat room this Thursday, April 18 (12:30 p.m., PDT). Fuld will chat with fans about the top-ranked Stanford Baseball team and the Cardinal's key three-game Pac-10 series at #8 USC this Friday-Sunday, April 20-22 (6 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm). Stanford (31-8, 10-2 Pac-10) leads the Trojans (27-13, 8-4 Pac-10) by two full games heading into the series, which opens the second half of the Pac-10 schedule for both clubs. Stanford is attempting to extend its school record string of Pac-10 titles to five in a row (includes Southern Division titles and co-championships). Stanford swept the Trojans in a three-game non-conference series earlier this season at Sunken Diamond (March 9-11). The Cardinal also won four-of-six games between the clubs in 2000. USC leads the all-time series, 194-137-3.
Stanford and USC combined for eight Pac-10 baseball titles (includes Southern Division titles and co-championships) in the 1990's. Stanford also held a share of the 2000 Pac-10 championship while the Trojans finished one game behind tri-champions Stanford, UCLA and Arizona State.Fuld leads Stanford in batting average (.356), on base percentage (.466) and bases on balls (21). He also paces the club in Pac-10 games with a .444 batting average. Fuld recently put together a 13-game hitting streak, going 23-for-50 (.460) over the span with five doubles, 10 RBI and three steals. He has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games and put together a pair of four-hit games last week at Nevada (4/10) and versus Oregon State (4/14).
A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and a native of Durham, NH, Fuld came to Stanford after being one of the nation's top prep recruits. Baseball America listed Fuld 19th on its Top 100 High School Prospects list of 2000. He was selected the New Hampshire 2000 Gatorade High School Baseball Player of the Year.
If you would like to ask your question for Fuld ahead of time, feel free to leave your questions now and we will save them for his arrival. Otherwise, he will chat with you on Thursday.
