Stanford, Ca - Another busy week awaits the Stanford men's and women's track & field teams as the Cardinal will send a sizable number of athletes to the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays (April 20-22) in Walnut, California, and three athletes will compete in the decathlon and the heptathlon at Azusa Pacific (April 19-20).

Cardinal ChatterJason Goff, Lillian Bush and Julie Tinker will begin Stanford's participation in this week's activities with competion at the Azusa Pacific Multi's (April 19-20) ... Goff will compete in the ten-event decathlon ... Goff set the freshman school record and sixth-best all-time in the varsity record book with a point total of 7,007 at last year's meet ... Lillian Bush and Julie Tinker will compete in the seven-event heptathlon ... Tinker is hoping to best her career effort of 5,033 points which she attained at the 1998 Pac-10 Championships ... Last year, Tinker chalked up 4,972 points in finishing fifth at the conference championships ... Bush is a freshman from Columbus, Ga.

Stanford StoryTwenty-nine women, and 24 men will compete for Stanford at the Mt. Sac Relays ... Several athletes will also compete in events at Pomona-Pitzer College.

Stanford StartsAlthough the 2001 outdoor season is only more than a month old, Stanford athletes have already put together excellent Pac-10 qualifying times and marks ... Fifty-five athletes (31 women, 24 men) have qualified for the Pac-10 Championships on May 19-20 at California ... Eleven Stanford athletes (7 men, 4 women) have qualified provisionally for the NCAA's, and one athlete, Jonathon Riley, has met the NCAA automatic standard in the 10,000 meters.

Pac-10 PotpourriStanford Olympian Michael Stember is currently ranked first in the conference in the 1,500 meters (3:41.80) and third in the 800 meters (1:49.73) ... Stanford runners are ranked first (Seth Hejny, 13:46.81), second (Jonathon Riley, 13:51.68), third (Louis Luchini, 13:53.87), and sixth (Daniel Parris, 14:11.10) in the 5,000 meters in the Pac-10 ... Michael Ponikvar is ranked first in the high jump (7-3) ... Jonathon Riley is first in the Pac-10 in the 10,000 meters (28:33.71) ... Milton Little is first in the conference in the long jump (25-4 3/4) ... ... Nick Welihozkiy is second in the Pac-10 in the hammer (201-4) ... Kimberly Stone is ranked second in the Pac-10 in the high jump (5-10 1/2) ... The Cardinal is ranked third (Michael Stember, 1:49.73), fourth (Gabe Jennings, 1:50.54), and fifth (Ryan Carroll, 1:50.79) in the 800 meters ... Omer Inan is rated third in the discus (188-9) ... Elena Villarreal is ranked third in the 5,000 meters (16:20.52)

National NotesJonathon Riley is Stanford's first NCAA outdoor qualifier ... Competing in his first collegiate 10,000 meters, Riley ran a 28:31.71 at the Stanford Invitational (3/31) ... Riley's time is third-best all-time at Stanford, and tops in the Pac-10 this year ... Eleven Cardinal athletes have qualified provisionally for the NCAA's which will be held May 30-June 2 at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

Record ReviewTwo school records have already been broken this year ... Jessica Pluth broke the freshman record in the hammer with a toss of 187-0 at the Stanford Invitational (4-1) ... Pluth easily broke the previous record of 163-10 by Maggie Isaac in 1997 ... Pluths' effort is also third-best overall all-time at Stanford, and only three feet short of the school record of 190-0 by Maureen Onyeagbako in 1999 ... Jillian Camarena broke the freshman school record in the shot put with a throw of 51-0 3/4 at the Stanford Opener (3/24) ... Camarena's toss broke the 15-year old record of Patty Purpur (50-9 3/4) ... Camarena's shot put effort is fourth-best all-time overall at Stanford.

Top Times/MarksLindsey Johnson's time of 13.91 in the 100 meter hurdles is fourth-best all-time at Stanford ... Kim Stone's high jump of 5-10 1/2 is fifth all-time in school history ... Freshman Stanley Wilson's times in the 100 meters and 200 meters have already reached the school's top-10 ... Wilson has run a 10.59, seventh-best in school history, and his time of 21.40 in the 200 meters is tenth all-time ... Omer Inan's discus throw of 188-9 is fifth all-time at Stanford ... Seth Hejny's time of 13:46.81 in the 5,000 meters is sixth-best all-time at Stanford.
