Strong Takes Second In 1500m at Pomona Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Junior Brandon Strong took second place in the men's 1500 with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:44.87, leading a small Arizona State track and field contingent at the Pomona Pitzer Invitational hosted by Pomona College in Claremont, Calif. Friday.
ASU dominated the men's 1500m race, as juniors Phillip Prince and Cheyne Jones placed sixth and seventh, respectively, behind Strong. Prince's time of 3:49.43 marked a season-best effort, while Jones clocked a time of 3:50.80.
Two Sun Devils set personal bests in the men's 5000m race, as junior Dennis Cox took fifth in a time of 15:06.34 and senior Chad Barrett placed seventh in 15:13.89. Cox shaved 16 seconds off his previous PR, while Barrett improved his previous best time by 15 seconds.
Also turning in top-10 finishes for ASU, redshirt freshman Kyle Morgan placed seventh in the men's 3000m steeplechase in 9:30.69, while senior David Burke took ninth in the men's 800m with a time of 1:53.68. On the women's side, junior Candi Criscione placed ninth in the women's 1500m in 4:42.96.
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, BYU's Elizabeth Jackson broke Aguilera's collegiate record with a winning time of 9:59.50. Jackson also holds the American record with a time of 9:57.20. Aguilera set the previous collegiate record (10:08.85) at the Stanford Invitational March 31.
