Softball Defeats Oregon 6-3

EUGENE, OR - The Bruin softball team completed its weekend with a 6-3 victory over Oregon on Sunday at Howe Field. With the win, UCLA improves to 44-4 overall, 7-4 Pac-10, while Oregon falls to 25-29, 1-10 Pac-10.
For the third times in as many days, sophomore All-American shortstop Natasha Watley led off the game with a hit, this time a bunt single, then stole the first of her three bases on the day.
UCLA scored four of it its six runs in the second inning, while recording four hits and capitalizing on two Duck errors. Second baseman Crissy Buck led off reaching base on an error by her Oregon counterpart, Alyssa Laux. After a strikeout and foul out, Watley singled Buck to third, and a long single to centerfield by Stephanie Ramos scored both Buck and Watley. Bruin third baseman Tairia Mims followed with a two-run home run, her team-leading 14th of the season.
Oregon countered in the bottom of the third with three run, before the Bruins put up one run in the fourth and one in the fifth to account for the final 5-3 score. In the fourth, Watley led off with a single before stealing second and third, scoring on an error by Oregon's pitcher The fifth inning saw Bruin left fielder Erin Rahn reach on a two-base error, and score on an RBI single by right fielder Lupe Brambila.
Bruin pitcher Keira Goerl struck out nine and walked two while scattering eight hits on the afternoon. With the win, Goerl goes to 17-1 on the season.
UCLA returns to action on Wednesday afternoon with a 1 pm doubleheader at UC Riverside before starting the Pac-10 weekend back at Easton Stadium with a 2 pm Friday first pitch against No. 4 California. No. 3 Stanford comes to town for a 2 pm first pitch on Saturday and a 1 pm start on Sunday. Sunday's game will be broadcast live on www.uclabruins.com.
