Brooke Rutschman And Crystal Draper Earn Pac-10 Honors
April 23, 2001
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State University centerfielder Brooke Rutschman has been named Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week while her teammate Crystal Draper was named Pitcher of the Week for Apr. 16 - 22, announced Commissioner Tom Hansen on Monday.
Rutschman, a senior from Camarillo, CA, led the No. 16 ranked Beavers in hitting last weekend with a batting average of .625 (5-for-8), .750 slugging percentage and three runs scored.
Rutschman was the only Oregon State player to record more than one hit (2-for-3) in the upset win over top-ranked UCLA (Apr. 20) and scored what proved to be the game-winning run.
Later in the weekend, Rutschman went 2-for-3 with a double, stolen base and two runs scored in an 8-3 win over No. 12 Washington (Apr. 22).
Draper, a junior from Parkdale, OR, pitched 14 innings, giving up just three earned runs while striking out 12 in wins over No. 1 UCLA and No. 12 Washington.
Draper allowed just one run on six hits while striking out six in a complete game victory over the Bruins (Apr. 20).
She went on to win her 21st game of the season (which ranks in a tie for third place in the OSU single-season record book for wins) with another complete game, allowing just two hits while striking out six against Washington (Apr. 22).
Draper leads the Beavers with a 1.23 ERA and a 21-8 record this season.
The Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the first of Rutschman's career while the Pitcher of the Week honor is the third for Draper. The duo joins teammate Traci Feldt as OSU selections for the 2001 season. Oregon State has now received 17 honors all-time.
The No. 16 ranked Beavers will host in-state rival Oregon on Tuesday afternoon at the OSU Softball Complex. First-pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
