April 24, 2001

STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's soccer team opened its 2001 spring season with a convincing 8-0 win over San Jose State on Monday at Maloney Field.

The Cardinal got two goals apiece from freshmen Robyn deHay and Marcie Ward as well as two scores from sophomore Kelsey Carlson. Freshman Brittany Oliveira and sophomore Becky Myers also scored in the game.

In the net, senior Carrie Walsh and freshman Nicole Barnhart combined for the shutout.

Stanford and San Jose State met in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament last November with the Cardinal winning 4-1. The 2000 campaign saw Stanford go 14-6-1 overall and 6-3 in the Pac-10. Sixteen players, including eight starters, return from last year's squad.

The Cardinal is next in action on Sunday, April 29 against USF. All of Stanford's spring games will be played at Maloney Field, and admission is free.
