USC forward David Bluthenthal, who helped the Trojans reach the East Region final of the 2001 NCAA Tournament, has been named to the United States team that will compete in the 16th World Maccabiah Games in Israel in July, head coach Larry Shyatt announced today.
Bluthenthal, a 6-7, 220-pound junior, was USC's third-leading scorer (13.5) during the recently completed season and its second-leading rebounder (6.8). He led the Trojans in three-pointers (65) and three-point percentage (.409, 65-of-159). He was also second in steals (50).
Bluthenthal, who also competed for the U.S. at the 1997 Maccabiah Games, was among 12 players and four alternates selected to Team USA by Shyatt. Shyatt completed his third year as the head coach at Clemson this season.
The American team leaves for Israel on July 7. The Maccabiah Games are scheduled for July 16-26.
