Men's Basketball Final Notes from 2000-2001
April 25, 2001
Corvallis, Ore. -
THE RECAP: The 2000-2001 season, under first-year head coach Ritchie McKay, will go in the books as one of the most bizarre in the program's storied history. From freak injuries to transportation obstacles to a depleted roster, Oregon State remained competitive in most outings. The following is a look back at what was the 2000-2001 season, and a look forward to 2001-2002.
THANKS SENIORS: Four members of the program leave after exhausting their eligibility. Leaving OSU are four-year manager Cullen Bangs (Knappa, OR), and players Deaundra Tanner, Jason Heide, and Josh Steinthal. The three players combined for 181 starts in 299 career OSU games, 3,189 career points, and 299 three-point field goals. The 299 threes represent 14% of the school's all-time total. Steinthal's freshman statistics from the University of Memphis are not included in the prior numbers.
A CHANGING OF THE GUARDS, CENTER AS WELL: A glance at next season's roster and seeing the names Tanner, Steinthal, and Heide not appear will be odd to Oregon State followers. In their absence, the Beavers will rely on five returning lettermen, three redshirts, and four newcomers. The team will be one of the youngest in many years. Here is a closer look (Years as of 2001-2002):
