Washington Dual: The Cal women's crew travels to Seattle, WA, April 28 to square off against the No. 5-ranked Washington Huskies. A full slate of men's and women's racing is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
Varsity Eight: Coming off a fourth-place finish at the San Diego Crew Classic and dual race victories over Stanford and Oregon State earlier this month, the Cal varsity has an entirely different look in 2001. Losing nine letterwinners to graduation, third-year head coach Dave O'Neill depends on the skills of a young and talented collection of women during the Bears Spring 2001 campaign.
Washington Dual History: The women's varsity racing series with Washington dates back to 1975. The Bears dual race record versus the Huskies is 7-19. Cal has not defeated Washington in dual race competition since 1990 at the Oakland Estuary.
Competition Quick Look: The No. 5 Huskies enter this week coming off a 13 second victory over No. 18 Wisconsin, April 21. Earlier this year, USC got in the way of Washington's 10th consecutive Jessop-Whittier Cup title at the San Diego Crew Classic as the Huskies settled for second, two seats back of the Trojans. Cal Finished fourth at San Diego, 13 seconds off the Huskies pace. In addition, UW has notched dual race victories Oregon State and Washington State.
Oregon State Dual Recap: The No. 11-ranked Cal women's varsity eight defeated the Oregon State Beavers by 16 seconds in a dual race on the Redwood Shores Lagoon, April 22. The Bears established themselves as the early leaders in the race and pushed themselves down the course in what the crew considered their best race of the season. In other women's racing the Cal JV defeated the Beavers, but Oregon State took the decision in the novice eight and the varsity and novice four races.
