Huskies in Fifth Place at Pac-10 Golf Championships

Stanford, CA - The Washington men's golf team is in fifth place after the first 36 holes at the Pac-10 Championships at the Stanford Golf Course. The Huskies recorded a 3-under par score of 707 following the opening day of play. USC currently leads the tournament with a 17-under par score of 693.

After finishing the morning round at 4-over par 359, which had Washington in eighth place, the Huskies rebounded to shoot 7-under during the afternoon session. Washington is just four strokes behind third place Arizona.

Freshman Corey Prugh (Spokane) led Washington with a career-best score of 67 during the second round of play on the par-71 Stanford Course. Prugh is currently tied for 11th place with a score of 139, just one stroke ahead of fellow Husky freshman Brock Mackenzie and sophomore Derek Berg. Both Mackenzie and Berg posted opening-round scores of 68. It was Mackenzie's third consecutive round he shot 68 during a tournament. Berg's 68 matched his lowest round as a collegian. Mackenzie and Berg are tied for 15th place.

Arizona golfers hold down the top two spots atop the leaderboard. Rickey Barnes turned in scores of 65 and 66 for an 11-under score of 131. Wildcat teammate Chris Nallen shoot 66 and 68 to trail Barnes by three strokes.

Washington freshman Joey Ramos also posted a round of 68 during the afternoon session. Ramos stands in 28th place with a scorre of 143. Other Husky scores include a 146 by John Robertson and a 148 by Conner Robbins.

Saturday's second day of play will include 18 holes of play and will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Stanford Golf Course.
