Walker Into Pac-10 Semifinals

Ojai, Calif. - Bruin sophomore Sara Walker defeated Claire Carter of Washington, 6-4, 6-1 Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Pac-10 singles draw at the 101st Ojai Valley Tennis Championships.
Walker, who is gunning for her second straight Pac-10 title after winning the championship in 2000, will face ASU's Adria Engel in one of Saturday's semifinals. Maureen Diaz of USC, a 6-4, 6-3 winner over UCLA's Lauren Fisher in the quarterfinals, will take on Cal's Raquel Kops-Jones in the other semifinal.
In the Pac-10 doubles draw, the Bruins had two teams advance to the semifinals Friday. Walker and partner Mariko Fritz-Krockow defeated ASU's Cindy Sureephong/Megan Yeats, 8-4 in the first round and moved on to beat Washington's Carter/IIona Kordonskaya, 9-7 in the quarterfinals. The Bruin tandem of Fisher and Petya Marinova also advanced, defeating USC's Melissa Esmero/Anita Loyola, 8-4 in the first round and Arizona's Michelle Gough/Sophie Regnier, 8-4 in the quarterfinals.
