Cardinal Women's 4 x 800 Meter Relay Team Sets School Record at Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa - The 4 x one mile relay team from Stanford not only won the Penn Relays championship on Saturday but also set the school record in the process.
The team of Seth Hejny, Donald Sage, Jonathon Riley and Olympian Michael Stember raced to victory in a time of 16:15.70, shattering the old school record of 16:23.16 in 1998. That team consisted of Stember, Riley, Jason Lunn and Cardinal Olympian Gabe Jennings.
Another school record was broken by the women's 4 x 800 meter relay team which, although finishing fifth, was timed in 8:32.26, breaking the old record of 8:36.24 last year. Ashley Couper ran the opening leg for Stanford in 2:06.9, followed by Lindsay Hyatt (2:07.60), Katie Hotchkiss (2:10.7) and Maurica Carlucci (2:06.9). Florida won the race in 8:24.25.
The Cardinal men's 4 x 800 meter relay team also scored a major victory on Saturday, winning in a time of 7:19.39. Stanford edged out Kentucky (7:19.87). Ryan Carroll, Hejny, Mark Hassell and Stember led the way for the Cardinal.
In other events involving Stanford athletes, Nick Welihozkiy finished tenth in the hammer at 194-10 (67.34m), while Chad Wassink placed tenth in the javelin at 182-1 (55.50m).
