No. 1 Arizona Hands Oregon Softball Second Straight Loss

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Oregon softball team (25-33, 1-13) fell 6-1 to No. 1 Arizona in front of 1,327 fans at Hillenbrand Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., Sunday afternoon. With the win, Arizona improves to 51-4, 13-2 and extended its home win streak to 41 games.
'This is a very tough team and I thought we battled pretty well,' Oregon head coach Rick Gamez said. 'We limited our errors this weekend and were able to hit the ball, but Arizona is an extremely tough team.'
The Ducks had five hits and scored their lone run in the fourth inning after a single by Janell Bergstrom scored senior Triawn Custer, who had reached on a fielders choice. Arizona outfielder Lauren Bauer allowed Bergstrom's hit to pass through her legs, which allowed Custer to score from first base.
Arizona took a 1-0 lead after the first inning and added four more runs in the second to extend the lead 5-0. Oregon scored in the fourth to narrow the gap, but the Wildcats scored in the fifth and held the Ducks scoreless in the final two innings.
Junior Connie McMurren (8-14) took the loss for the Ducks and Becky Lemke (16-2) got the win.
