PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of April 23-30:


MEN'S TRACK - Micheal Stember, STANFORD. Stember, a senior from Fair Oaks, Calif., ran on Stanford's two relay teams which both claimed first-place at the Penn Pelays. Stember ran the anchor leg on the 4x1600M relay, which broke the school record in a time of 16.15.70. On the 4x800M, Stember's final relay leg helped secure their second win, the team clocked a time of 7:19.87. This is the first time that Stanford has won any relay event at the Penn Relays.

MEN'S FIELD - John Stiegeler, OREGON. Stiegeler, a sophomore from Coos Bay, Ore., finished second in the javelin with a throw of 73.74 m/241-11 (NCAA automatic) at the Oregon Invitational. Stiegeler leads the collegiate list in the event with his season best from the Texas Relays (74.92/245-9) and ranks fifth on the U.S. list that also includes post-collegians. On the Pac-10 list, he is more than 11 feet better than the next league qualifier and he ranks second on the all-time list for the Ducks.

WOMEN'S TRACK - Sheena Johnson, UCLA. Johnson ran an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 56.23 placing second in the 400 meter hurdles at the Penn Relays. Johnson's run was a personal best, No. 2 mark on the current collegiate list and No. 4 in school history. Johnson, a freshman from Staford, Va., also ran the second leg on UCLA's 4x400M relay that placed sixth (3:35.38, season-best, NCAA provisional mark).

WOMEN'S FIELD - Dana Lawson, CALIFORNIA. Lawson led the way for Cal, assisting in its second-place finish at the Cal-Nevada State Meet. Lawson won the discus with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 173-0. The mark was a career best and ranks No. 4 on the Bears all-time list. The senior from Clayton, Calif., also placed second in the shot put and fourth in the hammer. Her multiple placings garnered a total of 23 points for the Bears, more than 25 percent of their total team points.

WOMEN'S FIELD - April 10 - Christina Tolson, UCLA (SP), April 16 - Tracy O'Hara, UCLA (PV), April 23 - Christina Tolson , UCLA (HT, SP), April 30 Dana Lawson, CAL (DT).
