Kohn Wins Again As UW Beats OSU, 11-4

SEATTLE - After allowing three runs in the first inning, Washington starter Shawn Kohn settled downto allow only one run on four hits the rest of the way to lead the Huskies to an 11-4 winover Oregon State in a Pac-10 game Friday night at Husky Ballpark.
Kohn improved to 6-1 with the win, fanning 11 and walking none over nine innings ofwork. Washington improved to 26-15 overall and 6-10 in the Pac-10 while OSU fell to 28-19 on the season and 8-8 in the league.
The game began as a slugfest as both teams pushed across multiple runs in the first. In thetop of the opening frame, OSU loaded the bases on an infield single and two bloops tocenter before Curtis Davis belted a double to left to clear the bases and give the Beavers a 3-0 lead.
The Huskies came back quickly in their half of the first as center fielder Brandon Jacobsonled off with his third home run of the year. After a Marc Rittenhouse single and a walk toJay Garthwaite, Tyler Davidson doubled down the left field line to drive in both runnersand tie the game. Michael Done and Tila Reynolds both doubled to drive in a run each andBryan Johnson's single scored Reynolds to give the Huskies a 6-3 lead before the first outwas made.
After the early outburst, both pitchers settled down. Kohn allowed only two singles in thesecond through sixth innings and didn't give up another run until the seventh. That runscored when Will Hudson singled before Zach Gordon's fly ball to center dropped in frontof Jacobson, who slipped on the wet grass as he came into make the play. The ball fell fora double and Hudson scored from first.
OSU starter Stephen Copeland (3-3), after allowing the first seven Huskies to reach in thefirst, retired the next nine in a row before catcher Jefferson Thiel led off the fourth with histhird homer of the season. The Huskies would go on to score four runs in the fourth toincrease their lead to 10-3.
Davidson finished the ninth 3-for-5 with a single, a double, a triple and three runs battedin. All nine Husky batters had a hit in the game.
The Huskies and Beavers continue the series Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and close it out withanother 1:00 p.m. game Sunday.
