Oregon Softball Falls 6-2 To Huskies
May 6, 2001
SEATLLE - Powered by three home runs, the Washington Huskies picked up a 6-2 win over Oregon at the Husky Softball Stadium in Seattle, Wash., Sunday. Washington improves to 36-19 overall, 10-8 Pac-10 and Oregon falls to 27-36, 1-17.
'We actually swung the bats well today,' Oregon head coach Rick Gamez said. 'But they had a couple of key hits that we weren't able to get on our end. We left too many runners on base.'
Junior Connie McMurren (8-17) went the distance for Oregon, giving up six runs on 10 hits while striking out three. Washington pitcher Tia Bollinger (32-5) got her second win in as many days, giving up seven hits and two runs in six innings pitched. Bollinger struck out five.
The Huskies took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Oregon got on the board in the second to narrow the gap, 3-1. Washington added three more runs in the third and allowed Oregon just one more run in the fourth. Senior Triawn Custer finished the day 2-for-3 and scored both of Oregon's runs. Lynsey Haij and freshman Kate Peterson tallied both Oregon RBI and had a hit apiece. Sophomore's Andrea Vidlund and Janell Bergstrom had Oregon's other two hits.
Becky Simpson led the Huskies, finishing the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Simpson accounted for one of the Huskies' three homers.
Oregon returns home for its final weekend, hosting Portland State in a doubleheader Wednesday before returning to Pac-10 play against California Friday.
