PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of May 1-7:

MEN'S TRACK - Simon Kimata, OREGON. At the Texas Invitational in Austin, Kimata posted his first NCAA qualifying mark (1:47.92) en route to winning the 800 meters. On the collegiate qualifying list, he ranks fourth nationally and tops in the Pac-10 by more than a half-second. On the school's all-time list, his time ranks seventh and also broke the three-year-old Mike Myers Stadium track record. Kimata is a junior from Nyeri, Kenya.

MEN'S FIELD - Djeke Mambo, USC. Mambo won the triple jump with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 16.45m/53-11 3/4 as the Trojans snapped UCLA's 22-meet dual meet winning streak over USC. Mambo also won the long jump (7.63m/25- 1/2) and finished second in the 110m high hurdles (13.97), scoring 12 points in USC's 82-81 victory. He is a senior from Brussels, Belgium.

WOMEN'S TRACK - Michelle Perry, UCLA. Perry competed in five events against USC, running the anchor on UCLA's winning 4x400m relay, which clocked an NCAA automatic qualifying and season-best time of 3:32.76. She also won the 100m hurdles (NCAA provisional time of 13.18) and the 400m hurdles (NCAA automatic time of 56.23). Perry ran the third leg on the Bruins' 4x100m relay that placed second (NCAA automatic time of 44.19), and she finished fourth in the long jump, with an effort of 5.95m/19-6 1/4. Perry is a senior from Palmdale, Calif.

WOMEN'S FIELD - Valerie Williams, ARIZONA STATE. Williams turned in a career day at the ASU/UA/NAU Double Dual, posting double wins in the long jump and triple jump. Williams won the long jump with a personal-best leap and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6.46m/21-2 1/2, the third-best mark in Sun Devil history. She also won the triple jump with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 12.82m/42- 3/4. Williams is a senior from Frederick, Md.
