Balazs Veress Named ITA Regional Rookie of the Year

After finding out yesterday that he had been named Pac-10 Men's Freshman of the Year, in addition to being named second team All-conference, Balazs Veress has been named Region VIII ITA Rookie Player of the Year. The native of Budapest, Hungary has compiled a 19-13 overall record thus far, including a 10-10 record in dual match competition, playing mostly at the No. 2 spot for the Bears.
Announced today by ITA Division I Awards Chairman, Jim Osborne, Veress will be included in a select group of seven other regional winners to be considered for the National Rookie Player of the Year Award. If selected as the national winner, he will be honored at the ITA Awards Banquet at the NCAA Championships.
The men begin NCAA regional competition in Provo, Utah, Friday, May 11 when the Bears take on No. 67-ranked BYU at 2 p.m.
