Student-Athletes Recognized for Their Achievements

Corvallis, Ore. - Senior baseball player Scott Nicholson and sophomore softball player Brynnen Guthrie have been named the Oregon State University Athletes of the Week for the period of April 30-May 6. Sophomore women's golf team member Bridget Bieth and freshman men's golfer David Williams have been named the student-athletes of the week for the same time frame.
Nicholson pitched a seven-hitter in last Saturday's 9-1 victory at the University of Washington. The left-hander from Longview, Wash., improved to 10-2 for the season, and 4-0 for his career vs. the Huskies. Nicholson walked just one batter in the effort and struck out four.
Guthrie batted .600 (6-10) with three RBI and a double in five games last week. The second baseman from Winchester, Ore., accounted for two RBI in an 8-0 win over Portland State last Wednesday, and was 3-for-3 against the Vikings last Thursday.
Bieth possesses a 3.67 cumulative GPA in home economics. The Sacramento, Cal., native has a 78.1 scoring average.
Williams, a Crescent Valley High School graduate in Corvallis, has a 3.67 GPA in business administration. He averages 76.0 for the season and will likely be competing in next week's NCAA West Regional at the Trysting Tree Golf Club.
