Women's Tennis Ranked No. 1 For 15th Straight Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Stanford University women's tennis team is No. 1 for the 15th consecutive week according to the WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings released and administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) today.

The Cardinal (24-0) has held the top spot throughout the 2001 season. Stanford is the top-ssed in the 64-team NCAA Tournament and opens post-season play at home against Boston University on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Following the Cardinal in this week's top 10 are: Duke, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Vanderbilt, California, Notre Dame, Northwestern and Southern California.

The Stanford men (21-1), who are also the top-seed in the NCAA Tournament, dropped from No. 1 to No. 2 behind Georgia despite not playing last week. The computer formula at this point in the season takes into account a team's 10 best wins and all its losses (based on the May 2 ranking). Both Stanford and Georgia have only one loss, but Georgia has a slight edge in wins, with its 10 best ranging from Nos. 7-19. Stanford's wins range from Nos. 3-31. Rounding out the men's top 10 are: UCLA, TCU, Duke, Tennessee, Texas A&M, SMU, Mississippi and South Alabama. The defending NCAA Champion Cardinal open NCAA Tournament play at home against Pacific on Saturday at noon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
