Kang Cards Six-Under 66 to Move into Second Heading into Final Round at NCAA West Regional.

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Freshman Jimin Kang shot a career-low 66 in the second round of the NCAA West Regional Friday to help the Arizona State women's golf move into a tie for third place heading into Saturday's final round. The NCAA West Regional is being held May 10-12 at the par 72, 6,089-yard Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore.
The Sun Devils entered the day in a tie for seventh, but their six-over par 294 moved them up four spots with a two-day total of 602. Arizona leads the field with a two-day total of 579, while Stanford (594) is second, ASU is tied with Michigan State for third and UCLA and Ohio State are tied for fith with two-day totals of 604.
Kang's 66 is the lowest round for a Sun Devil since All-American Grace Park set the school record with a pair of 65s in the first and second rounds of the 1998 NCAA Championships. With a two-day total of seven-under par 137, Kang is in second place, one shot behind Arizona freshman Natalie Gulbis who carded 68s in the first two rounds.
Other Sun Devils include senior Molly Cooper who is tied for 20th at 151 (77-74), junior Lisa Meredith who is tied for 55th (80-77=157), sophomore Blair O'Neal who is in a tie for 59th (80-78=158) and sophomore Melanie Hunt who is tied for 69 (83-77=160).
The NCAA West Regional wraps up Saturday afternoon. Arizona State will be paired with Arizona and Stanford and will tee off starting at 8:30 a.m.
The top eight teams and two individuals qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 22-25 at the Mission Inn Country Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
