Men's Mile Headlines Saturday's Oregon Twilight Schedule

EUGENE - Defending champion and HSI runner Jason Pyrah will headline the Bill McChesney Jr. Memorial Twilight Mile Saturday, May 12th at Hayward Field.

The 32-year-old and former BYU All-American ranks second in the U.S. this season in the mile after running 3:56.33 indoors. Overall during his career, the 1996 and 2000 Olympian owns mile and 1,500 personal bests respectively of 3:55.14 and 3:35.21 (equal to a 3:52.4 mile).

Last season, Pyrah won his first Oregon Twilight mile in a time of 3:57.63. He went on to rank rank fifth in the U.S. with a season best of 3:36.70 from his second-place Olympic Trials finish, and also ranked second in the U.S. in the mile with his 3:55.74 season best from the Pre Classic.

Two others of last year's five sub-4 finishers - South Africa's Clyde Colenso (second, 3:58.49) and unattached entrant and Oregonian Mike Miller (fifth, 3:59.86) - will also compete Saturday. Colenso won the NCAA outdoor crown in 1999 for Southern Methodist University, and Miller ranked fourth among Americans in 1999 (3:38.10).

Other featured entrants include Canadians Alex Hutchinson, Allan Klassen and Shane Bilodeau, and Eugene post-collegians Nolan Swanson (Nike), a 10K All-American for Wake Forest in 1999 (fourth), and Dave Davis (Adidas Foot Traffic). Other entries include Duck senior Michael Kasahun, Tom Reese (Saucony), Gary Hamer (Saucony) and Paul Kezes (unattached).

The Bill McChesney Jr. Memorial Twilight Mile closes the evening at 8 p.m., while the men's and women's hammer kicks action off at 4:30 p.m. Running events begin at 5:40 p.m. with the women's 100 hurdles.
