UW Men's Golfers Assigned to NCAA West Regional

Seattle, WA - The Washington men's golf team received the number-seven seed in the West Region and will travel to Oregon State for the NCAA Regional Championship May 17-19 at par-72, 7,060-yard Trysting Tree Golf Course in Corvallis, Ore.
The Huskies will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season. Last year Washington placed eighth at the NCAA West Regional in Fresno, Calif. The Huskies were led by Troy Kelly's ninth-place finish. Washington has competed at the NCAA Championships 13 times since the team's first appearance at the event in1942.
This year's 27-team regional field is headlined by sixth-ranked Arizona State, seventh-ranked Wake Forest, eighth-ranked Arizona, 10th-ranked South Carolina and 11th-ranked USC, the Pac-10 Champions. Also included are West Coast Conference champion Pepperdine and Mountain West Conference Champion BYU. A total of nine of the teams ranked in the latest Golfweek Collegiate Rankings will compete in the West Regional. Washington is ranked 36th in the latest standings. The Huskies' top individual performer, freshman Brock Mackenzie, is ranked 88th nationally.
Each of the three NCAA regionals contain 27 teams and six individuals from teams not selected. The NCAA East Regional is being held at the Golden Horshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., while the Central Regional is taking place at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla. The top 10 finishing teams and the low two individuals not on those teams will advance to the national finals at Duke University Golf Club in Durham, N.C., May 30-June 2.
