Sun Devils Beat Huskies, 11-6, In 10 Innings

SEATTLE - With one run already across in the 10th inning, Arizona State's Chris Duffy belted a grandslam to slam the door on Washington, handing the Huskies an 11-6 loss in a Pac-10 gameat Husky Ballpark.
The win improved the Devils' record to 32-16-1 overall and 10-9 in the Pac-10 whileWashington suffered a serious blow to its outside shot of making the postseason, falling to29-17 overall and 7-12 in the league with only five more conference games to play.
In the 10th, UW reliever Tyler Shepple (0-4), who had thrown three perfect innings priorto the 10th, gave up a leadoff double to Mike Lopez. After a single by Jeff Phelps putrunners at first and third, shortstop Dennis Wyrick singled to score Lopez with the go-ahead run. An out and a walk later, Duffy belted his second homer of the season over theright field wall off of the next UW pitcher, Scott Robertson.
The Huskies tied the game in the eighth when, with the bases loaded, ASU reliever AndyTorres made an errant pickoff throw to second base, allwoing Tila Reynolds to cross theplate to make the score 6-6. Torres pitched the ninth and 10th innings to improve to 12-3on the season.
The teams traded runs all day as the Huskies broke a 2-2 tie in the fourht with a two-runhomer from designated hitter Duggan Moran. After an ASU run in the top of the fifth,Husky right fielder Tyler Davidson belted a long solo homer in the fifth, his sixth of theseason, to give UW a 5-3 lead.
The Sun Devils, however, posted three runs in the sixth, taking the lead 6-5 on a singlefrom Duffy, who finished the day 3-for-6 with six runs batted in.
Davidson led the Husky attack with a single, a triple and a home run in five at bats. BrooksConrad also had three hits for the Sun Devils, finishing the day, 3-for-6.
The Huskies and Devils go at it again Sunday in the second game of the series at 1:00 p.m.
