Men's Track And Field Picks Up Points At Pac-10 Multi Events Championships

Berkeley, Calif. - Senior Russell Silvers scored a personal-best 7118 to take fifth place in the decathlon as the USC men's track and field team picked up a total of seven points in the multi-event portion of the 2001 Pac-10 Track and Field Championships held in Berkeley, Calif., on May 12-13.
Silvers' score puts him in eighth on the all-time USC decathlon chart and also netted the Trojans four points. Fellow senior Casey Thompson scored a season-best 6879 to take seventh (two points), while junior Tell Hendren had 6696 points and placed eighth (one point). Both Silvers and Thompson are now three-time Pac-10 finalists in the decathlon.
Santiago Lorenzo of Oregon won the event with a score of 7617.
USC is shooting for its third straight Pac-10 title and fourth in five years. The remainder of the Pac-10 Championships will take place May 19-20 in Berkeley.
