Three Softball Players Earn All-Pacific-10 Conference Honors

May 15, 2001

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State's 14th ranked softball squad placed three players on the All-Pacific-10 Conference squad announced Commissioner Tom Hansen on Tuesday. Junior Crystal Draper and senior Shawna Feldt each earned second team honors while sophomore Clare Burnum was an honorable mention pick.

Draper, from Parkdale, OR, leads the Beavers with a 28-10 record on the mound. She ranks in the top-five in five different Pac-10 Conference pitching categories, including a league-leading 36 starts.

Draper has struck out 188 batters while walking only 44 and her 28 wins ties the OSU single-season record for victories. She is earning her second Pac-10 honor, having garnered honorable mention status as a freshman.

Feldt, from Vancouver, WA, leads the Beavers in six different offensive categories, including at bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, triples and RBI. A three-time All-Pac-10 pick, Feldt has gained second team recognition for the first time after earning honorable mention status twice.

The 5-6 shortstop has played and started all 66 games this season and ranks in the top-10 in the Oregon State record book in nine career batting categories. She is the Beavers' all-time leader in runs scored with 100 in her career.

Burnum, from Canby, OR, earns her first Pac-10 honor after transfering to OSU last year from Nebraska. A utility player, Burnum played mostly at second base and was one of the Beavers' top batters. She currently leads the squad in triples and has belted 11 doubles.

UCLA sophomore catcher Stacey Nuveman took home Player of the Year honors while Arizona hurlerJennie Finch earned Pitcher of the Year accolades and Washington's freshman hurler was named Newcomer of the Year. Arizona's Mike Candrea and Stanford's John Rittman were honored as Co-Head Coaches of the Year.

Seven of the eight Pacific-10 Conference teams have gained births in the NCAA Regional Tournament.

OSU starts tournament action on Thursday when the No. 3 seeded Beavers face South Florida in Tuscaloosa, AL. Game-time is scheduled for 3 p.m. PDT and can be heard on the Internet at www.osubeavers.com.
