Men's Golf In Second After First Day Of NCAA West Regional

The Stanford men's golf team shot a four-under 284 today to sit one shot behind the 2001 NCAA West Regional leader, Arizona State (283), after the first round of play at the Trysting Tree Golf Course today. Rounding out the top five are Wake Forest (288), Arizona (289), San Diego State (289) and UCLA (289).

Stanford was one of only two teams to break par on the first day of play.

Individually, the Cardinal was led by sophomore Philip Rowe who fired a three-under par 69 and is tied for second. Senior Alex Aragon carded a one-under par 71 while tying for 10th. Jimmy Lee and Jim Seki shot even par (72) and are tied for 24th. Stanford's Eric Dahlberg recorded a three-over par 75 for the day and is tied for 74th heading into the second round.

UCLA's John Merrick fired a five-under par 67 to lead the field individually.

Second round action continues tomorrow at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Oregon and concluded on Saturday.
