Cal Volleyball Signs Julie Colmery to Letter of Intent
May 18, 2001
BERKELEY, CA - The University of California women's volleyball program has signed Julie Colmery to a National Letter of Intent, it was announced today by Golden Bear head coach Rich Feller.
Colmery is a 5-11 middle blocker from Alamo, CA. She attends Carondelet High School in Concord where this past fall she was Bay Valley Athletic League MVP and a first team all-league selection. Colmery was also first team All-East Bay, a member of the 2000 All-Power Bar team and a North Coast Section Scholar-Athlete as a senior.
Colmery is a starting middle blocker for the Forefront Volleyball Club in Berkeley as well, helping Forefront qualify for the elite 18-Open division of the Junior Olympic National Championship this July in Salt Lake City, UT. She has also helped lead Forefront to the finals of the Northeast National Qualifier in Baltimore, MD and fifth-place finishes at the Mikasa Kickoff Tournament in Torrance, CA and the Junior Far Westerns National Qualifier in Reno, NV this spring. Colmery selected Cal over Temple, Alabama, Montana and Saint Mary's.
'Julie brings a championship attitude with her from Carondelet High School,' said Feller. 'She has good athletic ability and great volleyball training and skills. She will immediately provide us with depth at the middle blocker position.'
Colmery joins Camille Leffall, a 6-0 middle blocker from Upland, CA, and Mia Jerkov, a 6-3 outside hitter from Split, Croatia, as the Bears freshman recruits for the 2001 season.
