Rain Delays UW Men's NCAA Tennis Tournament Match

May 19, 2001

ATHENS, Ga. - Heavy rain and severe lightning storms have delayed the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships at the University of Georgia on Saturday.

The Washington men were scheduled to meet second-ranked UCLA in the round of 16 at Henry Feild Stadium. The match was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Pacific Time (5 p.m. Eastern), but play was halted earlier in the day by the inclement weather. Two matches were taking place when play was suspended due to high winds and lightning warnings.

There are two sets of courts available, enabling two team competitions to take place simultaneously. The two suspended matches need to be played, along with two other matches that were scheduled prior to Washington's, before the Huskies and Bruins can take the court.

There is a possibility that the matches will be moved inside to Georgia's indoor tennis facility.
