Baseball To Host Long Beach State, Texas And Marist In NCAA Regional

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford will host Long Beach State, Texas and Marist in an NCAA Division I Baseball Regional at Sunken Diamond this Friday-Sunday, May 25-27, 2001. Stanford (42-14) is the top seed in the regional and will play fourth-seeded Marist (32-19-1) in its first game on Friday, May 25 (7:00 p.m.). Second-seeded Long Beach State (35-21) and third-seeded Texas (34-24) will play Friday's first game (3:00 p.m.). The winners of the first two games will meet in Game 4 of the regional on Saturday (3:00 p.m.), following an elimination game (Game 3) between the losers of Friday's first two games (11:00 a.m.). Game 5 will be played Saturday evening (7:00 p.m.) and feature the winner of Game 3 versus the loser of Game 4. Sunday's championship game between the winner of Game 4 and the winner of Game 5 begins at 1:00 p.m. If necessary, a second championship game will follow at 5:00 p.m.

Tickets for the NCAA Division I Baseball Regional at Sunken Diamond can be obtained by visiting the Stanford Ticket Office at Gate 2 of Stanford Stadium or by calling 1-800-STANFORD (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.).

'We're excited and thrilled to host this great event again,' said Stanford head coach Mark Marquess. 'The NCAA Regional has been an excellent experience in the past and with our new facility we expect it to be even better this year. Our fans and all of those in the community have always shown tremendous support for the NCAA Regionals we've hosted at Sunken Diamond in previous years.'

Stanford was also selected as the fourth seed for the NCAA Division I Baseball Championships. The winner of the NCAA Regional at Stanford will play the winner of an NCAA Regional hosted by Central Florida (49-12) that also includes South Carolina (44-17), Citadel (38-22) and Princeton (22-23).

Stanford (42-14, 17-7) finished the regular season in second-place in the Pac-10.
