CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's Scott Nicholson was named the Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Nicholson, a senior lefthander, blanked second-ranked Southern California 6-0 with a seven-hitter on Saturday, walking none and striking out four.
The Beavers (31-24 overall, 11-13 Pacific-10) wrapped up their season with last weekend's series against USC. Oregon State was not among the 64 teams selected Monday for the NCAA regionals, which will be held this coming weekend.
Nicholson concluded the season with an 11-2 record, tying him for the second-most wins ever by an Oregon State pitcher in a single season. Nicholson set the school record for innings pitched in a season (130.2), he tied for fourth on OSU's all-time lists of single-season leaders for shutouts (three) and complete games (10).
It was the second Pitcher of the Week honor this season for Nicholson and the third of his two-year OSU career. Nicholson wrapped up his career with a 4-1 record against top-five teams.
Oregon State had five Player of the Week or Pitcher of the Week honorees this season. In addition to Nicholson's two awards, OSU had first baseman Andy Jarvis, third baseman Brian Barden and catcher Bryan Ingram honored.
