Women's Doubles Team Eliminated in Second Round

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA - The final remaining two players for the Bears, Anita Kurimay and Raquel Kops-Jones, fell in the second round of doubles competition at the NCAA championships in Stone Mountain, GA. Cal would not produce its fourth consecutive NCAA doubles champion, as the senior/freshman duo fell to UCLA's Lauren Fisher and Petya Marinova, 6-4, 7-5, at the Lincoln Tennis Center.
The duo reached the Round of 16 by defeating Kate Burson and Julie Ditty of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 6-4, however, the road to the championship would be cut short by UCLA's duo. Kurimay and Kops-Jones would end the season with a 14-9 overall record as a tandem. Senior Anita Kurimay ends her career with the Bears with a lifetime singles record of 89-49, and a lifetime doubles record of 86-37.
Raquel Kops-Jones, who earned Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and ITA Regional Rookie of the Year honors this season finished the year with a team-best 29-16 record in singles, and a 21-12 overall record in doubles.
Head coach Jan Brogan finishes her 23rd season with the Bears tallying a 433-172 (.716) record. Brogan is the winningest active female women's tennis coach in the country. The Cal women's tennis team finished the year at 16-7, 4-4 in the Pac-10.
