Final-Round Flurry Lifts Women's Golf to Record NCAA Finish

Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - Washington's women's golf team equaled a school record with a 16th-place finish at the 24-team NCAA Championships at the El Campeon Golf Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Huskies shot an 8-over-par 296 on the tournament's final day to finish with a four-round total of 1,226, just two strokes behind 15th-place Kent State. The University of Georgia won the team title with a 24-over 1,176, ahead of Duke (1,179) and Texas (1,191).

Washington was led by junior Kelli Kamimura, whose 2-under 70 left her in 29th at 11-over 299, breaking school records for individual finish and four-round total held previously by Angie Burkett, who placed 33rd with a 302-stroke total at the 1995 NCAA Tournament. Louise Friberg fired a 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for 77th, with Michelle Grafos (tied-88th), Lindsay Morgan (tied-102nd) and Elisha Au (tied-114th) rounding out the Husky finishers.

Duke's Candy Hannemann and Arizona's Lorena Ochoa each carded a 69 to finish tied for the lead at 3-under 285, and Hannemann won a one-hole playoff to decide the championship.
