Women's Varsity Eight Finishes Fourth in NCAA Semifinal
May 25, 2001
The No. 13-ranked Cal women's varsity eight finished fourth in its semifinal heat at the NCAA rowing Championships on Lake Lanier in Gainesville, GA, May 25. The result puts the Bears in the petite final at the championships and they will race for the No. 7 through No. 12 national rank on Saturday. Cal's JV eight and varsity four also fell short of a berth in the grand final and will race for the No. 7 through No. 10 positions tomorrow.
'I'm proud of the way the crews raced today,' said coach Dave O'Neill. 'The level of competition was extremely high. Both the varsity and JV crews missed out on the final by one place. We've shown we can race with the crews we'll be up against and the women look forward to tomorrow's racing. We still have the opportunity to finish in the top five of the team standings and the crews will continue the fight tomorrow.'
Complete results will be posted as soon as they become available.
