Baseball To Host NCAA Super Regional
May 28, 2001
LOS ANGELES -- The USC baseball team will host the NCAA Super Regional on Friday-Sunday (June 1-3) at Dedeaux Field. The Trojans (42-17), who won the NCAA First-Round Regional last weekend, will host the winner of the Florida International-Notre Dame championship game. Notre Dame defeated Florida International, 5-2, this afternoon to force a winner-take-all title game at the South Bend, Ind., regional this evening.
The Trojans were the No. 3 national seed as determined by the NCAA baseball committee.
The initial times for this weekend's games are 6 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m on Sunday (if necessary). The series is a best two-of-three with the winner advancing to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. (June 8-16).
This is the first time that USC has hosted a Super Regional. The last time the Trojans clinched a CWS berth at Dedeaux Field was 1978 when USC later won the national championship.
