John Paul Fruterro Named to Collegiate All-Star Team

BERKELEY - Cal sophomore John Paul Fruttero has been named to the USA Tennis Collegiate Team, an elite training program for college tennis players that is designed to provide players with exposure to the professional circuit in a team-oriented environment.
The squad is composed of 12 of the top American men's and women's collegiate tennis players. The men will be coached by Ian Duvenhage, former head coach at Florida and will begin play July 18 in Joplin, Mo. They will also make stops in St. Joseph's, Mo., Decatur, Ill., and Godfrey, Ill., among others.
Fruttero earned his spot on the team by leading Cal to an appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. A first team All-Pac-10 selection, he was ranked among the Top 20 single players in the country much of the season and reached the semifinals of the ITA All-American championships in October.
