June 1, 2001

DURHAM, N.C. - The Arizona State men's golf team had climbed three spots into a tie for eight place before heavy rain and lightning halted the third round of the 2001 NCAA Championships being held May 30-June 2 at par 72, 7,086-yard Duke University Golf Course.

After a two-hour delay, the NCAA Men's Golf Committee halted play for the day at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. The third round will be resumed at 7:30 a.m. (4:30 a.m. Arizona Time) Saturday morning, and the final round will begin at 9 a.m. using the same pairings as the third round.

Arizona continues to lead the field at 14-under par, while Florida (-8) and Clemson (-1) are second and third, respectively. Arizona's Ricky Barnes also continues to hold onto the individual lead at 11-under par with an even round through eight holes on Friday.

Before inclement weather halted play, the Sun Devils were three-under par as a team and had moved into a tie for eighth place with Georgia Tech at seven-over for the tournament. Senior Jin Park was having the best day for the Sun Devils before play was suspended at three-under par through 11 holes to move into a tie for 34th at two-over par for the tournament. Park had birdied his last two holes before play was suspended.
