Five Sun Devil Softball Players Earn Pac-10 Academic Awards

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Five Arizona State Sun Devil softball players were named to the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic Team when it was announced today by conference Commissioner Tom Hansen. Junior pitcher Erica Beach and Sophomore shortstop Kara Brun were named to the first-team, while junior catcher Bonnie Brannen and sophomore outfielder Jennifer Forner were named to the second team. Sophomore outfielder Alicia Flanagan was named an honorable mention.

Beach (Scottsdale) hit .299 in 2001 with 47 hits, eight doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBI. On the mound the junior was ASU's leading pitcher, going 17-11 on the year with a 1.35 ERA. Brun (Glendale) finished fourth on the team with a .311 batting average, starting all 58 games of ASU's season and drove in a team-leading 42 RBI.

Brannen hit .125 on the year while appearing in 20 games, gaining two hits, while Forner hit .208 with 11 RBI and 27 hits in 57 starts. Flanagan appeared in 38 games for ASU in 2001 with no starts, but was 3-for-5 in stealing bases.
