Anthony Robinson and Misty Hyman Named Pac-10 Medal Winners

June 21, 2001

Walnut Creek, Calif. - The 2000-01 Pacific-10 Conference medal winners were announced today by Commissioner Tom Hansen. A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.

Senior men's swimmer Anthony Robinson finished his Stanford career as a 20-time All-American and set a world record in the 50-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Nationals in April. He was crowned the NCAA Champion in the 50 free at NCAAs this year, capping off a stellar four-year career on the Farm. He will represent the U.S. in the 100-meter breaststroke at the World Championships in Japan next month.

Senior women's swimmer Misty Hyman pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the entire Sydney Olympics by winning the gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly. Collegiately, Hyman was a 12-time NCAA Champion, and became just the second swimmer in the history of the program to earn the maximum possible 28 All-American honors (Catherine Fox is the other). The International Relations major was also a 17-time Pac-10 Champion.
